I have a syntax error in an operation! Give me a tiny help, please!

10 posts in this topic

Hello! I have a "syntax error" but I can't understand where is it. Can you help me with this?

There is two text files. I want to write three lines of the first file in each line of the second file. Then, if the first file has 600 lines, the second file should have 200 lines.

I hope I have explained well what I want.

#include <File.au3>
Local $sFile1
$sFile1 = "File1.txt"
Local $sFile2
$sFile2 = "File2.txt"
Local $sThreeLinesIntoOne
FileOpen($sFile1,0)
FileOpen($sFile2,2)
For $i In ( _FileCountLines($sFile1) / 3 )
   For $a = ( ( $i - 1 ) * 3 ) + 1 ) To ( $i * 3 )
   $sThreeLinesIntoOne = $sThreeLinesIntoOne & FileReadLine($sFile1, $a)
   Next
FileWriteLine($sFile2, $sThreeLinesIntoOne)
Next
FileClose($sFile2)
FileClose($sFile1)

AutoIt returns:

error: syntax error
For $a = ( ( $i - 1 ) * 3 ) + 1 )

You missed an opening parentheses

For $a = ((( $i - 1 ) * 3 ) + 1 ) To ( $i * 3 )

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

You missed an opening parentheses

For $a = ((( $i - 1 ) * 3 ) + 1 ) To ( $i * 3 )

hahaha I was thinking that the error should be a tiny mistake... but my brain is out for today haha Thanks!

But now I have another error:

Variable must be of type "Object".:
For $i In ( ( _FileCountLines($sFile1) )  / 3 )

I didn't found the solution... and today I'm going to get crazy... sorry for my questions >.<

Variable must be of type "Object".:
For $i In ( (_FileCountLines($sFile1))  / 3 )
For $i In ( (_FileCountLines($sFile1))  / 3 )^ ERROR

Did you read HelpFIle TWICE , or more times ?
Why you are using   "For .. in ... next"    for   normal loop ?

btw.
your expression:

( (_FileCountLines($sFile1))  / 3 )

again missed one opening bracket.

( ((_FileCountLines($sFile1))  / 3 )

No, I didn't forget a parenthesis. You placed in your code four opening parentheses and three closing parentheses.

And yes, I have read the help file but I'm newbie on AutoIT, and I'm here to learn and improve my programing skill.

I haven't understood why it's wrong to use a "for" loop in my code, sorry!

Rhazz,

As explained in the Help file, you should only use the "For...In...Next" type of loop when dealing with a collection (an Object or an Array). In this case you are using an integer - and so you get an error, again explained in the Help file. Do it like this:

For $i = 1 To (_FileCountLines($sFile1) / 3 )

as the "For...To...Next" loop expects number bounds.

Yes, I had misunderstood that part :s

With "For...To..Next" it works, thanks!

I'm reading the Help File for all of the things that I want to do haha and sometimes I make stupid mistakes xD

      Hi all,
Long time lurker and now forum poster! I'm writing a relatively simple backup script for my firm that automates the copy, compression and organization of Leaver's data on one of our secured NAS systems. I personally found the best method to do this so far was to use 7zG.exe (GUI version of 7Zip which can use command-line too) and it functions quite well!
I would like to retrieve more info on whether any warnings or errors happen in 7Zip during the backup, but I can't quite get my head around the syntax and switches for reading out, it seems any adjustment I make to the RunWait call's string seems to break the backup or give unexpected repercussions! Hopefully its something silly I'm doing as I don't code very often.
      Here is the working version:
; Compress the directories one by one in the zip using the listfile.... Local $iPID = RunWait(@ScriptDir & "\bin\7zG.exe a -mx" & $compressionQuality & " -v" & $compressSplitFileSize & " -wc:\temp " _ & $backupToLocation & "\" & $userDirectory & ".7z @bin\listfile.txt -x@bin\excludefile.txt", "", @SW_SHOWDEFAULT, $STDOUT_CHILD) Ultimately I would love to switch entirely to 7za.exe (standalone) so that I can read the progress percentage, current file being uploaded and any warnings or errors could be processed and output to the AutoIT script's GUI I've created rather than jumping in and out of two applications per se.

      Hello, and good day
Im trying to make a sentence autocompleter so that when you type certain words (or commands) the scripts, and im in need of help/pointers
That is what i have at the time and the issues i have currently is that:
      - I cant find an easy way to reset the counter to 0 in case a different letter from those are pressed ( tried NOT _ispressed but i think i got it wrong)
-Is there another way to detect the key press that _ispressed? (i couldnt find it so far), since i feel like it is too clunky ( although maybe that is just me and my way to code)
      - for some reason the hex code (6F) for the / (divide nume pad) isnt working for me

Im thinking of making a text file with some words to use them as variables/comparations  (so that at least removes the need of a variable for the words in the script) and make the script make a temporal text file to save the input and then compare it with the other one. But i dont know if that is a good approach.
Thanks for your time and patience.

      Hi all,
I have a bit of code that works on my old Win10 PC, that fails on my new Win10 PC, and I think the only significant difference is the version of Autoit - old PC has 3.3.12, new has 3.3.14.
I couldn't find anything mentioned in the change logs though, so perhaps I'm wrong.
Anyway, the code to replicate my issue is:
      Test('username', 'DOMAIN') ; THIS ERRORS: ;Test('localun', 'DOMAIN') ; THIS ERRORS: ;Test(' ', ' ') ; THIS ERRORS: ;Test('', '') ; THIS ERRORS: ;Test('localun', '') ; THIS ERRORS: ;Test('', 'DOMAIN') Func Test($un, $dom) $compName = 'PCNAME' $FullName = '.' $Description = '.' ; get the WIM object $objWMIService = ObjGet("winmgmts:\\" & $compName & "\root\cimv2") ; get default user full name and description $objAccount = $objWMIService.Get("Win32_UserAccount.Name='" & $un & "',Domain='" & $dom & "'") If IsObj($objAccount) Then $FullName = $objAccount.FullName $Description = $objAccount.Description EndIf ConsoleWrite($FullName & @CRLF) ConsoleWrite($Description & @CRLF) Return EndFunc
On my old PC this code will output just . and . for each of those line currently commented out. Which is fine.
On my new PC any of those commented out lines of code cause an error, and the script won't even compile.
$objAccount = $objWMIService.Get("Win32_UserAccount.Name='" & $un & "',Domain='" & $dom & "'") $objAccount = $objWMIService^ ERROR I'm very much a newb with the WMI stuff and objects, but it looks like the .Get property is failing when either $un or $dom aren't valid in v3.3.14, whereas in 3.3.12 the .Get would fail to return an object, which is then caught by the If statement.
Am I on track with this? Is there some new/better way to code the example so that 3.3.14 will compile it?

      Hey everyone,
I've been messing around with some new things and adlibs look extremely useful/interesting, however, I can't seem to get it to work.. Here's what I have
      HotKeySet("{F1}", "_Exit") $qCount = 1 Global $_Timer AdlibRegister($_Timer, 1000) AdlibUnRegister($_Timer) While 1 SoundPlay(@WindowsDir & "\media\tada.wav", 1) $qCount += 1 ToolTip('"Tada" has been played ' & $qCount & " times",200,200) WEnd Func _Timer() Local Static $iCount += 1 ConsoleWrite($iCount) If $iCount = 20 Then ConsoleWrite("iCount is at " & $iCount) EndFunc Func _Exit() Exit EndFunc Basically I want it to call the _Timer function but it doesn't seem to work :/ any ideas?
