SentryP Posted September 26, 2013 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Ok so here is my thought. We are currently using a crappy help desk tool that doesn't meet our needs. I was thinking of using auto it to write a simple but highly functional help desk tool. A small "client" for creating tickets and auditing the PC's. A Tech client to view and update tickets. A server service that would do work flow tasks. I wanted to write it in Autoit for a few reasons. The first is Autoit easy, all most any one can understand autoit so my counter parts should be able to read the code if I ever needed them to. The second, I will learn a lot. And the third is I can do so great work flow automation. What are you guy's thoughts? Is this a bad idea? I have looked around and couldn't find any example code so I'm assuming this is a bad idea and I am missing something. Thank you for your thoughts. Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted September 26, 2013 Moderators Share Posted September 26, 2013 Hi, SentryP. I would say it is completely possible. Some time back I wrote a front-end for Microsoft's SCCM in AutoIt. Aside from the asset management pieces it contained a lot of the functionality you're talking about. The customer was extremely happy with the outcome. One thing to keep in mind is storage of tickets (database) and search/audit functions. These can be something of a challenge, but can easily be managed with AutoIt. "Profanity is the last vestige of the feeble mind. SentryP Posted September 26, 2013 Author Share Posted September 26, 2013 Track-it It lacks workflow and a good web front end. They have footprints as an upgrade option but we are a small shop that doesn't have the budget or the man power for a system of that size. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
AdamUL Posted September 26, 2013 Share Posted September 26, 2013 We currently use Spiceworks v6.2, the current version is 7.0. It free and it has multiple features such as help desk with e-mail integration and help desk web portal, asset management, software and hardware inventory, purchasing, and reporting. It is run through a web interface. We use the help desk, inventory, and reporting features. What's also nice about it, is a SQLite DB back-end. If you would still like to write an AutoIt application from scratch, it should give you some ideas for features. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

iamtheky Posted September 26, 2013 Share Posted September 26, 2013 http://www.redmine.org/ is also a fine GPL product in this arena. SVN integration and other SDLC concerns are integrated allowing for a tool that can be used across multiple departments and is not limited to performing as a simple ticket tracker. ,-. .--. ________ .-. .-. ,---. ,-. .-. .-. .-. |(| / /\ \ |\ /| |__ __||| | | || .-' | |/ / \ \_/ )/ (_) / /__\ \ |(\ / | )| | | `-' | | `-. | | / __ \ (_) | | | __ | (_)\/ | (_) | | .-. | | .-' | | \ |__| ) ( | | | | |)| | \ / | | | | | |)| | `--. | |) \ | | `-' |_| (_) | |\/| | `-' /( (_)/( __.' |((_)-' /(_| '-' '-' (__) (__) (_) (__) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
