Champak
I need to constantly detect an active window and I would prefer a way to do it outside of the main while loop. Is there some type of object or callback or something I can use that will automatically notify me if one of my two windows have focus?

Champak
Thanks, but That is simply a local timed function, It won't help me. I want something to be monitored every second without taking up any potential monitoring/processing/waiting time from the script, which is why i didn't want to put it in the loop or use the ad lib function...or any timer based function. There's already a bunch of other conditions being monitored locally in the script. That is why I was hoping there is some type of object..which I consider external vs local...that can monitor this and provide some type of return if something happens. water
AdLibRegister doesn't stop your script from doing whatever you need to to in the main loop. The main loop is interrupted every x milliseconds to process the specified function, then returns to the main loop. That's what I meant, sorry for the miss communication, that's what I don't want, otherwise I would just put the thing directly in the loop.Or catch the WM_xxxx messages from windows How do I do this, where can I find an example of how to utilize this for my needs. I believe that this should work how I need it.
BrewManNH
A WinActive in an AdLib function would take hardly any time at all from your regular processing. A Windows message (WM_* messages) would still have to interrupt your running script to jump to the function that's registered to it. AutoIt is single threaded, there's no getting around the fact that one script can not process two things at the same time. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. AdamUL
Here is an example script using AdlibRegister. When you run the script you will see it takes up hardly any processor usage, as BrewManNH mentioned. The Adlib function is set to run every 10 ms. I even included TimerInit and TimerDiff to test timing in the Adlib function. This example also sets a flag that you can check while your script is running to see if the windows are active or not. expandcollapse popup#include <GUIConstants.au3> Global $sWinTitleGUI1 = "Test 1" Global $sWinTextGUI1 = "This is test 1." Global $sWinTitleGUI2 = "Test 2" Global $sWinTextGUI2 = "This is test 2." Global $fFlagActive = False ;Active windows flag. Global $hGUI1 = GUICreate($sWinTitleGUI1, 200, 200, 100, 100) GUICtrlCreateLabel($sWinTextGUI1, 50, 100) Global $hGUI2 = GUICreate($sWinTitleGUI2, 200, 200, 400, 100) GUICtrlCreateLabel($sWinTextGUI2, 50, 100) GUISetState(@SW_SHOW, $hGUI1) GUISetState(@SW_SHOW, $hGUI2) AdlibRegister("_Mon_Wins", 10) Global $aMsg While 1 $aMsg = GUIGetMsg(1) Select Case $aMsg[0] = $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE Exit Case Else EndSelect WEnd Func _Mon_Wins() Local $hTimer = TimerInit() If WinActive($hGUI1) Or WinActive($hGUI2) Then ConsoleWrite("Windows are active. " & TimerDiff($hTimer) & " ms" & @LF & @LF) $fFlagActive = True Else ConsoleWrite("Windows are not active. " & TimerDiff($hTimer) & " ms" & @LF & @LF) $fFlagActive = False Endif EndFunc Adam
