RegExp - Local inside While...Wend Loop

15 posts in this topic

#1 ·  Posted (edited)

I want to do a RegExp for finding string (( single line ) with Local directive used inside While Wend loop.

Here is what I get:
TEST SCRIPT:
Func _test1()
    Local $sTest1 = ''
    While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        While 1
;~          ....
            Local $sTest2 = ''
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test1

Func _test2()
    Local $sTest3 = ''
    While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        While 1
;~          ....
            Local $sTest4 = ''
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test2

REGEXP:

(?is)(While.*?)(Local\V*)(?:.*?)(?=Wend)

I have two problems with that REGEXP

QUESTION 1:

Why using that:

(?is)(While.*?)(?:Local\V*)(?:.*?)(?=Wend)

I have 2 groups with a duplicate text "While"

Because I use that group definition (While.*?) I am puzzled why the output of the definition of the group gives me twice the text "While" ?

QUESTION 2:

When I had that test script:
Func _test1()
    Local $sTest1 = ''
    While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        While 1
;~          ....
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test1

Func _test2()
    Local $sTest3 = ''
    While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        While 1
;~          ....
            Local $sTest4 = ''
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test2

I mean without:

Local $sTest2 = ''

and now when I use that REGEXP:

(?is)(While.*?)(Local\V*)(?:.*?)(?=Wend)

I have that result:

GROUP 0:

While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        While 1
;~          ....
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test1

Func _test2()

GROUP 1:

Local $sTest3 = ''

?? How to do a REGEXP witch return that GROUP:

GROUP 0:

While 1
;~          ....

GROUP 1:

Local $sTest4 = ''

EDIT:
I mean without Func / EndFunc statement inside GROUP 0

Hi mlipok,

I'll try to guide you rather than spoon you a canned answer; I'm sure you prefer things this way.

Q1 is easy: apply the regexp to this slightly modified input and I'm sure the light will shed.

Func _test1()
    Local $sTest1 = ''
    While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        while 2
;~          ....
            Local $sTest2 = ''
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test1

Func _test2()
    Local $sTest3 = ''
    While 3
;~      ....
;~      ....
        while 4
;~          ....
            Local $sTest4 = ''
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test2

Q2 part 1: explanation of why you get this result is simply because that's what you asked for. If you need more detail just ask.

Q2 part 2: am I correct guessing that you will want the groups which are directly related (here I mean "while 4" and "Local $sTest4")?

yes yes yes
this is the best way to learn: searching, asking and practice :)

So I knew that ;)
Can You gave Me some further minor hint ?

Not sure about what you exactly need but please try this

Here are the text to test and the code :

Func _test1()
    While 1
;~      ....a
          Local $sTest1 = ''
;~      ....b
       While 2
;~          ....c
          Local $sTest2 = ''
;~          ....d
        WEnd
;~      ....e
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test1

Func _test2()
    Local $sTest3 = ''
    While 3
;~      ....f
;~      ....g
        While 4
;~          ....h
            Local $sTest4 = ''
;~          ....i
;~          ....j
        WEnd
;~      ....k
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test2
$res = StringRegExp(FileRead("1.txt"), "(?is)(?:.*?(While.*?)+\K)(Local\V+)", 3)

$str = ""
For $i = 0 to UBound($res)-1
   $str &= StringRegExpReplace($res[$i], '\s+$', "") &@crlf
   $str &= "==============" &@crlf
Next
Msgbox(0,"", $str)

The code uses K which allows to reset the start of match at the current point and 'forget' that was matched before

Edit

jc, is this approach correct ?

Q2 part 1: explanation of why you get this result is simply because that's what you asked for. If you need more detail just ask.

So I knew that  ;)
Can You gave Me some further minor hint ?

QUESTION 1: continuation: simplifying the question:

TEST SCRIPT:
Func _test1()
    Local $sTest1 = ''
    While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        While 2
;~          ....
            Local $sTest2 = ''
;~          ....
;~          ....
        WEnd
;~      ....
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test1
REGEXP:
(?is)(While.*?)(?:Local\V*)(?:.*?)(?=Wend)

when I use (While.*?) for definition to the first grup I remeber this description

*?

0 or more, lazy

and I assumed that I would receive the smallest possible string
starting with the keyword 'While'
and ending before the keyword "Local"

that is, I thought about something like:

While 2
;~          ....

and received such a result:

While 1
;~      ....
;~      ....
        While 2
;~          ....
reiterating the question:
what is the cause of my error? which REGEXP syntax should I use to achieve the desired goal?

When running, your regex first finds 'While 1', then  .*?  grabs anything until the limit (the word Local) is reached, "anything" means all characters between "While 1" and "Local" and this includes the "While 2"

but the question mark mean LAZY ,

from AutoIt 3.3.8.1 HelpFile:

"

? (after a repeating character)

Find the smallest match instead of the largest.

"

So I would not have any questions I used such an expression:
(While.*)

but I use this:

(While.*?)

and there has just do not get it

I always everything worked as it should be but now I have a problem with that

In this case you are confusing about laziness, think of how the regex engine operates
First it finds 'While 1', then it "finds the smallest match" until 'Local'

For your goal the best way would have been to use a lookbehind, but as undefinite quantifiers are not allowed in these assertions the only remaining way is to use K
In the helpfile jchd wrote : Action of K is similar but not identical to a look-behind, in that K can work on alternations of varying lengths.

Edit

You said

I assumed that I would receive the smallest possible string

starting with the keyword 'While'

and ending before the keyword "Local"

This is exactly what the regex engine does as soon as it finds 'While 1' which is the first While found from the beginning of the text

Sorry today I've been constantly prevented to devote enough time to contribute.

mlipok,

My rather laconic answer wasn't intended to put you down. Indeed and as mikell just expressed, laziness is irrelevant in this case.

Looking from an abstract point of view, you request two literal matches (while and local) and a "lazy" catchall in between. That the catchall is lazy or not makes absolutely no difference, since it must be extended so that "local" matches.

Thank you both for your answers
From a some time analyzing @mikell answer.

One thing I know, your help has changed my approach to this issue.
I also understood my flawed understanding of, the principles of the question mark in this case.

Many thanks
Yet while I think.
Maybe something I can come up with. If I had any further questions do not hesitate to ask them here ;)

It is not a good practice declare variables inside a loop.

It is precisely for this, going.
I am doing script analyzer.

Although this task may seem ridiculous, it is a very good job of learning.
Or maybe this will be an additional benefit in the form of a script in the "Example Scirpts"

EDIT:

I have some old scripts, the number of errors occurring in them is staggering.
So I wanted to automate some amendments.

So I am in the process of development .....

mlipok,

It's a huge challenge you're going into

I guess you will discover soon that there are always some exceptions or particular cases that regex cannot solve

The code I posted above is an answer to the precise question you asked, but if the text to treat is like this one below, it no longer works (for #5 and #6) and I can't imagine how to proceed :)

Func _test2()
    Local $sTest3 = ''
    While 3
;~      ....f
;~      ....g
        While 4
;~          ....h
            Local $sTest4 = ''
            Local $sTest5 = ''
;~          ....i
;~          ....j
        WEnd
;~      ....k
         Local $sTest6 = ''
    WEnd
EndFunc   ;==>_test2

If you are doing an analyzer, which results in a report, I assume that the processing of a report, the hand of man.
After processing (removing errors) must perform the second check.
In this case, the removal of the first repro reveal the second.

      Well the plan is to use the power of regular expressions engine of AutoIT for patching binary data.
      Something like this: StringRegExp( $BinaryData,  "(?s)\x55\x8B.."

      <cut> ... Okay straight to question/problem
      ... certain bytes that are in the range from 0x80 to 0xA0 won't match.
      Hmm seem to be a char encoding problem. In detail these are 27 chars: 0x80, 0x82~8C, 0x8E, 0x91~9C, 0x9E,0x9F
      Here's a small code snippet to explore / explain this problem:
      #include "StringConstants.au3" $TestData = BinaryToString("0x7E7F808182") ;Okay $match = StringRegExp( $TestData ,'\x7E' ,$STR_REGEXPARRAYFULLMATCH) ConsoleWrite('@extended = ' & @extended & ' $match = ' & $match & @CRLF) ;Okay $match = StringRegExp( $TestData ,'\x7F' ,$STR_REGEXPARRAYFULLMATCH) ConsoleWrite('@extended = ' & @extended & ' $match = ' & $match & @CRLF) ;Error no match $match = StringRegExp( $TestData ,'\x80' ,$STR_REGEXPARRAYFULLMATCH) ConsoleWrite('@extended = ' & @extended & ' $match = ' & $match & @CRLF) ;Okay $match = StringRegExp( $TestData ,'\x81' ,$STR_REGEXPARRAYFULLMATCH) ConsoleWrite('@extended = ' & @extended & ' $match = ' & $match & @CRLF) ;Error no match $match = StringRegExp( $TestData ,'\x82' ,$STR_REGEXPARRAYFULLMATCH) ConsoleWrite('@extended = ' & @extended & ' $match = ' & $match & @CRLF) ;~ output: ;~ @extended = 2 $match = ;~ @extended = 3 $match = ;~ @extended = 0 $match = 1 ;~ @extended = 5 $match = ;~ @extended = 0 $match = 1 Hmm what to do? Go back and use the 'numberstring monster' implementation or just omit that range of 'unsafe bytes'. What is the root of this problem?
      Any idea how to fix this?

      Update: Okay I know a byte is not a character.
      But StringRegExp operates on String and so character level.
      Okay as long as you stay at Ansi encoding and only use /x00 - /X7F in the search pattern using  StringRegExp works well to search for binary data.
      What bytes can be matched that are in the range from /X7F - /xFF is also depending on the code page.
      So this avoid to search for bytes in the range from 0x80-0xa0 only applies to Germany.
      I just change this country setting:

      to Thai and now near all bytes from /X7F - /xFF fails to match.

      Text in a file, read into var with fileread:
      <> <> <> <> < J please look > <> <> <> Hi,
      I want  a RegExp to select around 'please', back to the previous < and forward to the next >.  I can select the line of text.  Then I add in (?s) and it selects the whole text.  I think I want to make it not greedy, (?U) , that seems to make it ungreedy after, but it still selects all the previous lines.
      $sPattern = "(?s)<.*please.*>" ; 1 $sPattern = "(?s)<(?U).*please.*>" ; 2 $sPattern = "(?s)<(?U).*please(?U).*>" ; 3 $sAry = StringRegExp($sHTML, $sPattern, 3)

      I want to rename every new instance of notepad to notepad(random number)
      If I use WinSetTitle ( "notepad", "", "notepad("&$randomnumber&")" )
      this will work pretty good, because if more windows match the search entry it will take the newest. But what if this code runs, but there is no new instance of notepad. It will rename one that was already assigned a number. So I would like to check whether it is already renamed. For example by excluding titles that contain a ")".
      How do I do that.
      Read this, but that is pretty confusing: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/406230/regular-expression-to-match-line-that-doesnt-contain-a-word?rq=1

      #include <Array.au3> ; Script Start - Add your code below here Local $test = "<li>One<li>Inner<li>Innermost</li></li></li>" & _ "<li>Two</li> " $loob = StringRegExp($test, '\Q<li>\E(.*?)\Q</li>\E', 3) _ArrayDisplay($loob, "How to return the One... and Two?") Hello, can somebody help me:
      (1) How can I have the regexp matched the two outermost bullets? Such that:

      (2) How can I match the "Innermost" bullet?
      Thanks so much.
