Popular Post Ascend4nt Posted June 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) CPU Multi-Processor Usage This is an example of getting and displaying processor usage for all processors in a system. It uses the 'undocumented' NtQuerySystemInformation function to gather processor usage information and then does calculations based on the delta of two readings. I wrote this as an alternative to using my >Performance Counters UDF - specifically, check out >Example # 4: System CPU Usage (by Processor). There is now a new interface, as well as two ways to track CPU usage. The first method tracks usage for all CPU's, and additionally produces an overall CPU usage result. The second method tracks Overall CPU usage - a combined value representing all cores as one unit. Note that this second method uses GetSystemTimes, which requires Windows XP SP1 or higher. The usage works like this for all CPU's: $aCPUsUsageTracker = _CPUsUsageTracker_Create() $iTotalCPUs = $aCPUsUsageTracker[0][0] ; Call the following repeatedly - $aCPUsUsageTracker will be updated automatically: $aPercents = _CPUsUsageTracker_GetUsage($aCPUsUsageTracker) For Overall CPU usage, either look at $aPercents[$iTotalCPUs] above, or use this interface (reliant on GetSystemTimes): $aCPUOverallTracker = _CPUOverallUsageTracker_Create() ; Call the following repeatedly - $aCPUOverallTracker will be updated automatically: $fUsage = _CPUOverallUsageTracker_GetUsage($aCPUOverallTracker) _ Need to see how CPU usage is affected? A simple tool I use to stress-test individual CPU cores is Stress Prime 2004, which can be run multiple times. P.S. All I ask is that you acknowledge me in some way if you use any of this code. updates: 2013-08-31: - Added a simple Overall and Idle CPU usage example 2013-06-18: - Changed interface for getting CPU usage. Whould script error-out when that's the case because of input check in _CPUCalculateUsages()? Good catch. I was looking at the wrong dimension - it's supposed to check the 2nd, whereas I accidentally had it check the 1st. I've fixed that and successfully tested this in a 1-CPU VM machine. UEZ Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 I tried it on a virtual one cpu machine and it crashes, too but _CPUCalculateUsage() works independently which I used for SysInfo Clock. I think the faulty parts are the Ubound(x) < 3 checks Func _CPUCalculateUsages($aCPUsPrevInfo, $aCPUsNewInfo) If Not IsArray($aCPUsPrevInfo) Or UBound($aCPUsPrevInfo, 1) < 3 Then Return SetError(1, 0, "") If Not IsArray($aCPUsNewInfo) Or UBound($aCPUsNewInfo, 1) < 3 Then Return SetError(2, 0, "") The result in my vm is Ubound is smaller than 3. Thus < 2 will work for me but I don't know why 4 entries are expected. Br, UEZ Please don't send me any personal message and ask for support! I will not reply! Ascend4nt Posted June 18, 2013 Author Posted June 18, 2013 UEZ, try the new version. You might have missed my last post - the issue was I accidentally put a 1 where there should be a 2 in the UBound check. The check is there to make sure the 2nd dimension has 3 required elements [idle, Kernel, and User], which is safe for 1 processor as well. Ascend4nt Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Since I wasn't satisfied with the juggling around with arrays in the main code, I've changed the way CPU usage tracking works. See the first post for the new method. The results are the same, but its now much cleaner looking. Also, Overall CPU usage can still be obtained separately, but now the original method also reports this as the last item in the returned array. 2013-06-18: - Changed interface for getting CPU usage. Now there's no need to juggle arrays around My contributions: Performance Counters in Windows - Measure CPU, Disk, Network etc Performance | Network Interface Info, Statistics, and Traffic | CPU Multi-Processor Usage w/o Performance Counters | Disk and Device Read/Write Statistics | Atom Table Functions | Process, Thread, & DLL Functions UDFs | Process CPU Usage Trackers | PE File Overlay Extraction | A3X Script Extract | File + Process Imports/Exports Information | Windows Desktop Dimmer Shade | Spotlight + Focus GUI - Highlight and Dim for Eyestrain Relief | CrossHairs (FullScreen) | Rubber-Band Boxes using GUI's (_GUIBox) | GUI Fun! | IE Embedded Control Versioning (use IE9+ and HTML5 in a GUI) | Magnifier (Vista+) Functions UDF | _DLLStructDisplay (Debug!) | _EnumChildWindows (controls etc) | _FileFindEx | _ClipGetHTML | _ClipPutHTML + ClipPutHyperlink | _FileGetShortcutEx | _FilePropertiesDialog | I/O Port Functions | File(s) Drag & Drop | _RunWithReducedPrivileges | _ShellExecuteWithReducedPrivileges | _WinAPI_GetSystemInfo | dotNETGetVersions | Drive(s) Power Status | _WinGetDesktopHandle | _StringParseParameters | Screensaver, Sleep, Desktop Lock Disable | Full-Screen Crash Recovery Wrappers/Modifications of others' contributions: _DOSWildcardsToPCRegEx (original code: RobSaunder's) | WinGetAltTabWinList (original: Authenticity) UDF's added support/programming to: _ExplorerWinGetSelectedItems | MIDIEx UDF (original code: eynstyne) (All personal code/wrappers centrally located at Ascend4nt's AutoIT Code)
