Where do you go to find UDFs? How can you tell what's out there?

Is there such a thing as a library of UDFs? I've been using AutoIt for a couple of years now, but I've only figured out how to leverage UDFs recently. In particular, I've had fun with AutoItObject and MouseTrapEvent. That's whet my appetite, now I want to go UDF shopping.

How does one go UDF shopping? Where do they hang out? Also, how can you be sure if you've got the latest version?

Once again, thanks in advance,

There is no central UDF repository.

Just use the search function of the forum and you will find what you are looking for (most of the time).

Thanks very much. I'm reviewing the "built in" ones now. In addition to the two mentioned below, I've installed AutoItObject and ToolTipTimer.

I've found two different mouse callback handling UDFs:

- MouseTrapEvent -

- MouseOnEvent -

Since they address the same problem and provide only one public function, they have virtually the same interface. MouseOnEvent has a window argument to limit the callback scope, but it's lack in MouseTrapEvent seems trivial compared to the difference in events these two UDFs cover. There are many evevents that both support, but each supports some that the other doesn't. Worse still, while I could get both to generate callbacks for Double Right Click, I couldn't Double Middle Click to work in either. But my knowledge is limited. Maybe my code is at fault? Maybe there's something wrong with my mouse?

The question I'm dancing around here is: When faced with two similar UDFs, how does one choose? SInce I'm very grateful to have user provided library functionality, I certainly wouldn't want to offend the developers. In addition to this question in the general case, I'm interested in these two UDFs specifically.

As always, thanks in advance.

I can't talk about the two listed UDFs, I haven't used them.

I would first test the newer UDF. One is from 2008, the other from 2013. The newer one seems to be based on the older one.

If it fits your needs, stay with it. If not, test the other one.

This is completely unrelated, but I'm loathe to create another new thread when I've made two in two days already. Plus I'm new here and the question feels really super ignorant. Anyway...

Where can one get a complete list of "#" directives. I know "#include", "#include-once", "#cs", "#ce", and "#forceref", but I see others and wonder. In particular, and hopefully to relate it to the subject of the thread, when reviewing the standard UDFs, an internal function of Debug.au3 uses "#obfuscator_off" and "#obfuscator_on" before and after the function delcaration. What's that do?

Thanks,

Those related to the language can be found in the AutoIt help - section "Keyword / Statement Reference".

Others are for the AutoIt3Wrapper, Tidy etc. and can be found when you select Help -> SciTE Help -> Extra Utilities in SciTE.

Help file and SciTE4AutoIt help file. It's all documented on this site too, you just have to do a bit of research.

  • 1 year later...

Hi a bit late to the party, i'm the author of mouse trap event,

MouseTrapEvent is just to trap clicks events at the moment.

Middle double and left double now fixed. see udf.. .Thanks for using it..it still is a bit buggy.

yes both udf are similar. In fact mouse trap event is based on mousesetevent. But I found this udf too difficult and unstable on some windows and also mouseonevent dosen't support xbuttons. So I merged Mousesetvent with another udf.

btw creating udfs is a free for all ..so you just have to use google to find what you want.

One presumes you have looked at the last section in the Help file, which covers a lot of UDF's (User Defined Functions)?

I in recent times significantly replenished this Wiki Page:

http://www.autoitscript.com/wiki/User_Defined_Functions

So first check HelpFile like other memebers said, and eventualy check mentioned Wiki Page.
